Charitable Remainder Unitrust
(Who should serve as trustee?)

You may serve as trustee of your charitable remainder unitrust, or you may choose another individual, bank or trust company to serve as trustee of your trust. Your financial advisor or attorney may be able to offer recommendations if you donít have a trustee in mind.

In addition, if you fund your trust with at least $50,000 in cash, securities or other property, you can appoint the Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia to serve as trustee of your trust. The University administers a large portfolio of charitable remainder trusts, and its fees are typically less than those charged by institutional trustees. If the University serves as your trustee, your trust will be invested in units of the Universityís endowment.

Whichever option you choose, we can share sample trust forms and discuss the details of establishing the unitrust with you and your advisors.
